Jorge Pinheiro

Jorge Pinheiro October 7 in 1931, is a Portuguese painter. He attended the course of Painting at the Superior School of Fine Arts of Porto, finishing the degree in 1963 with a rating of 20, such as the painters Ângelo de Sousa and Armando Alves and the sculptor José Rodrigues, with whom he founded 1968 the group of the Four Vintes. Jorge Pinheiro was part of ESBAP’s teaching team in 1963. [1]Expressionist and figurative tendencies influenced his early artistic production, but a study tour of Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Italy, and Spain in 1966 made him acquainted with geometric abstractionism. His paintings adopted a large format, with vast smooth chromatic surfaces, populated by elemental geometric forms. The “Autumn” work of 1972, with which he performed the aggregation test in the ESBAP, presents a series of vertical and horizontal lines, constituting well defined chromatic zones, on which dynamic curved forms appear.
