Francisca Carvalho was born in Portugal. Lives and works in Lisbon. Graduated in 2016 from Mount Royal School of Art MFA of Multidisciplinary Studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art thanks to a Fundação Carmona e Costa / Fulbright scholarship. In 2009 completed a degree in Philosophy at FCSH-UNL and in 2003 the Advance Studies in Visual Arts at Ar.Co. Her work addresses the life of symbols translating it into drawings, collages and textiles. Her work has recently been exhibited at Chiado 8 ‘Art on Paper Navigator Prize’ She has recently shown her work in a solo exhibition ‘Hasta’ in 2018 at the National Handloom and Handicrafts Museum in New Delhi, and in 2016 Chordata at Culturgest, Porto. From January to May 2018 she was in India, developing a research and a body of work on natural dyes and hand block printing of Rajasthan in Jaipur and Bagru. This research was possible thanks to Fundação Oriente and Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.
